Creating the Graphic Concept

Super-magazine for super-moms!

In the fall of 2004, Splendid Media, the multimedia sales and marketing consultancy company, identified a barely tapped niche market in Romania and they proposed a mutual project of developing a magazine for moms and future moms to Academia Catavencu Group. Academia Catavencu asked for a project proposal, and Splendid Media approached Re:ply to create the graphic concept of the new publication and to provide publishing consultancy.

Re:ply drew up a graphic concept starting from the idea that “being a mom is really cool”, and based its approach on the project’s target-readers: an educated public, active and lively. The magazine looked to exploit new issues compared to the other magazines on the market (for instance, preconception) and its intention was to be a fresh, optimistic and modern presence.

Re:ply created a funny and cheerful logo for Superbebe that’s easy to identify and remember. We also made several visual identity elements that centered upon an asterisk-star, the sign of the joyful personality of the publication.

We structured the magazine by clearly defining sections that enabled easy navigation. We chose several fonts to be consistent with its personality and we also built up a chromatic scheme based on pastel colors. Specialized studies indicate that some hues of blue, green and red have a calming effect, transmitting a reassuring feeling to the readers. At the same time, we used the colors most beloved to children, such as cocoa milk.

In addition, Re:ply organized training for the Superbebe team and also got involved in the concept’s implementation process, by providing graphic and editorial consultancy for several issues of the magazine.

In June 2007, Superbebe went through a process of modernization and refreshment. The content of the magazine was improved by new sections and columns, and Re:ply then redefined the flat plan, made the layouts and consequently adjusted the graphic concept to the new changes.

At the third edition of the Night of the Galleries, among the exhibitions prepared at The Ark, Re:ply presented an X-ray of the way a magazine is built up.

Iulian Puiu talks about trends in publishing on
04-06-2009, a business and financial daily news site, invited Iulian Puiu, Creative Director at Re:ply, to write an article for the “Editorial” section.
